Abstract
One percent of random sample population of Bikaner was surveyd to determine prevalence of cutaneous leishmaniasis in this city. Out of 2860 persons belonging. to the 35 wards of Bikaner, 86 persons (0.06%)'belon ' to nine wards had 9mg chronic ulcers, but only 18 among these (0.63%) were proved cases of oriental sore. Males were predominantly affected, highest prevalence being in the age group below 20 14 in years m poor persons and persons living crowded areas. Lesions were localized to exposed parts of body in most of the cases. Dogs infected with Leishmania tropica were found in the same 9 wards, where human leishmaniasis was prevalent. Out of 64 dogs in the 35 wards, which were found, to have ulcers only 7 were. Positive for leishmania tropica bodies in cut smear from the lesionFulltext Views
