AbstractPatients attending the out-patient department of Dermatology service of Safdaxjang Hospital, New Delhi were studied for dermatophytosis. Of 126 clinically diagnosed cases of dermatophytosis 66(52.40/o) were positive by direct KOH examination and 64 (50.76%) were positive by culture for dermatophytes which included 50 microscopically positive and 14 negative specimens. This study shows that the most common dermatophytes species is T. rubrum, followed by T. tonsurans and T, violauceum. Other positive cultures identified were E. ,floccosum. T. mentagrophytes.
