Dr Bhawneshwar Kumar Girdhar left for his heavenly abode on 11^th Feb 2020 after a brief illness. He was born in Delhi in 1947. He graduated from Banaras Hindu University in December 1969 with merit in all subjects. He did MD in Dermatology from AIIMS, Delhi in Dec 1974 and was a meritorious student with profound clinical acumen. Being a thorough gentleman, he held his colleagues in great regard.

He started his career as Lecturer in Dermatology in LLRM Medical College, Meerut. Later he joined JALMA as a scientist where he conducted outstanding research in leprosy. He dedicated his life not only to taking care of leprosy patients, but also trained medical officers in the field of leprosy. He worked as deputy director as well as Superintendent in charge of JALMA hospital for over a decade. He was also a WHO expert for leprosy.

He was invited faculty at various national and international fora. He had almost 125 publications in national and international journals and his research was internationally acclaimed. JALMA Trust fund, Scientist of the Year, Kasturba Gandhi oration, lifetime achievement award by UP-UK CUTICON 2017 were some of the many prestigious awards he received.

He is survived by his wife Dr Anita Girdhar (scientist in JALMA), son Abhinav and daughter Abha. May God give his family the strength to bear this huge loss and we pray that his pious soul attains salvation.
