Dr. Chetan Oberai (10-08-1946 to 15-09-2025)

The dermatology fraternity mourns the passing of Dr. Chetan Oberai, Honorary Dermatologist at Grant Medical College & Sir J.J. Hospital, Mumbai, who left for his heavenly abode on 15^th September 2025.

Dr. Oberai was a distinguished clinician, respected teacher, and revered mentor. His professional journey was marked by outstanding clinical acumen, ethical practice, and deep compassion for his patients. He will be remembered not only as a fine dermatologist but also as a humane physician whose humility, warmth, and generosity touched all who knew him.

A passionate teacher, Dr. Oberai nurtured generations of dermatologists with patience and dedication. Among his earliest students were Dr. Haresh Timbadia, Dr. Mansukhani, Dr. Rashmi Shah, and Dr. Ramesh Govalkar, who fondly remember him as a guide and inspiration.

At the national level, Dr. Oberai played a pivotal role in the growth of dermatology in India. He served as the President of the Indian Association of Dermatologists, Venereologists and Leprologists (IADVL) in 2006, where he worked tirelessly to strengthen academic platforms, encourage collaboration, and uphold the highest standards of clinical practice. His vision and leadership left a lasting imprint on the Association and the specialty at large.

His demise is an irreparable loss to the dermatology community, his colleagues, students, and patients. While we grieve his absence, we also celebrate a life dedicated to dermatology, defined by knowledge, service, and compassion.
