Hair transplantation has already become a huge industry in India and is growing at a tremendous pace with many of the young dermatologists venturing into it. There was a great unmet need for a book on this topic from an Indian perspective.

This book edited by Dr. Venkataram Mysore is a detailed comprehensive account of hair transplantation. Equal emphasis has been given to two main techniques of graft harvesting that is follicular unit extraction and strip harvesting. As follicular unit extraction technique is more widely practiced among dermatologists, the editors have included three dedicated chapters on this technique. While one chapter describes the procedure, the other chapter elaborates on the tips and tricks for improving the results and another chapter describes how to manage mega and giga sessions with this technique. The book has an excellent collection of photographs of good quality that are relevant to the text making it easy to understand the techniques and procedures described in the text.

The book also includes a chapter on how to start up a hair transplantation practice. One can get quick reference to the hair transplant instruments and their suppliers, hair transplant theater requirements and ergonomics in hair transplant surgery. I appreciate the inclusion of a chapter on medicolegal issues related to hair transplant surgery as this is important information that is not easily available otherwise.

Besides the in-depth coverage of different hair transplantation techniques, the book covers the basic science of hair follicles, and the clinical approach and medical management of androgenetic alopecia in men as well as women. Pricing is appropriate for the content and the quality of paper and hardcover of the book.

The strength of this book is the thoroughness and complete coverage of the subject of hair transplantation with good illustrative images. I congratulate the editors and authors for their wonderful work and recommend this book to dermatologists and plastic surgeons who are planning to set up hair transplantation clinics.
