The Indian Association of Dermatologists, Venereologists and Leprologists (IADVL) is in search of candidates (Indian nationals with life membership of IADVL) to be considered for the position of Editor of its official journal, Indian Journal of Dermatology, Venereology & Leprology (IJDVL). The present editor will be completing his term (editor elect 1 year + editor in chief 3 years) and will be laying down office by 31 January, 2017 . The journal has a wide readership base both in India and abroad and is now indexed with MEDLINE, PUBMED, EMBASE and other indexing agencies.
A search committee has been formed comprising the following IADVL members to select the new Editor: Dr. D.M.Thappa (Chairperson) , Dr. Deepak Parikh, Dr C.R.Srinivas, Dr Suresh Talwar and Dr. M.Ramam. Ex-officio members: Dr Venkataram Mysore and Dr Rashmi Sarkar
IJDVL had the good fortune of being served as its editors by some of the most illustrious names in Indian dermatology and the search committee would be expecting candidates with the following attributes:
- A broad-based background in dermatology with enough academic experience
- Highest leadership and organizational capabilities
- A commitment to work hard and maintain the high standards of the journal
- Demonstrated writing skills in English
- Proficiency in electronic communications
- A reputation for fairness and impartiality
- Enthusiastic and whole-hearted support from the institution and colleagues
- Reasonable number of quality publications as a lead author in peer-reviewed national and international dermatology journals
- A life-member of IADVL with at least five years′ good-standing
- Previous experience in an editorial role
- A pleasant and affable personality
The Editor of the journal will be responsible for the following:
- Forming an editorial team with a broad spectrum of representation for academic and practicing dermatologists
- Directing and implementing journal policy within the ambit of the goals and financial resources of IADVL
- Maintaining the independence and the high dignity of the journal
- Raising resources for the journal publication through ethical and just sponsorships
- Elevating the position of the journal globally
- Publishing articles of highest standard, with insistence on ethical clearance for original articles and/or conflicts of interests from the contributors if any
- Obtaining and organizing editorial team review before peer reviews and appointing reviewers
- Corresponding with authors and organizing adjudication wherever needed
- To publish the journal in time and to supervise and work closely with team members to meet publication deadlines and improve overall efficiency
- To maintain and update the IJDVL website
- To submit audited accounts of the journal at the annual general body meeting of IADVL
- All other duties as assigned in the Constitution of IADVL
The selection of the new Editor would be made before the DERMACON 2016 conference in January 2016 for approval by the Central Council and the General body of the IADVL. The Editor would be appointed for an initial 3-year term beginning in February 2017 . The new Editor is required to join the present team during the transition period in order to acquaint himself/herself with the day-to-day functioning of the journal, and is expected to be fully functional from 1st February, 2017.
