I am extremely happy to place before you the second version of "Dermatosurgery Guidelines". On behalf of all the members of the taskforce I am extremely grateful to IADVL and IJDVL for accepting to publish these guidelines.
Dermatosurgery is currently a fast-developing subspecialty of dermatology and has been practiced by several dermatologists across the country. With no formal training or degree available to train and impart skills to the desiring younger generation, who are more than willing to take up this branch as their profession, it becomes very difficult to decide whether to pursue further or not. Younger dermatologists are in a dilemma. However, for those who venture to practice dermatosurgery, guidelines are required to bring in uniformity for the procedures adopted and also to standardize the patient care. With this in mind, IADVL has set out to put forth guidelines in this dynamic and vibrant field.
I immensely thank Dr. V. K. Sharma, President IADVL, Dr. Rajeev Sharma, Honorary General Secretary, IADVL, Dr. D. M. Thappa, Editor, IJDVL and all the members of the National Executive for giving me and my whole team an opportunity to assemble these pearls and weave it into an attractive garland. My wholehearted congratulations to all the authors who have contributed to the guidelines and all those colleagues who have critically peer-reviewed these articles and put forth valuable suggestions.
Needless to mention the role of Dr. Mysore Venkatram, whose untiring and persistent efforts has resulted in this booklet, which is a must-be-kept book in every practicing dermatologist′s library. Dr. Mysore Venkatram is a great accomplisher and takes anything that is assigned to him to its logical end, in spite of his busy schedule. He, himself is an accomplished author and is the guiding force for this "Dermatosurgery Guidelines" without whose contributions this project would not have been a possibility. I am happy and thankful to him to help me realize my dream.
This should pave the way for establishing centers of excellence in Dermatosurgery and Medical Cosmetology in India, so as to give a fillip to these ever-growing branches in India. I am sure farsighted dermatologists will take up this task for the benefit of all those who want to pursue Dermatosurgery.
