After doing his M.B.B.S. from Indore and D.V.D. and F.C.P.S. from Mumbai, Dr. A. C. Parikh [Figure - 1] joined Acworth Leprosy Hospital in Mumbai in 1963. He devoted himself wholeheartedly to leprosy work, also teaching under-graduate and postgraduate students of Mumbai University at the hospital.
After eight years, he joined Bombay Hospital as an honorary dermatologist and taught dermatology (including leprology) to batches of general practitioners.
He held numerous positions such as President, IADVL (Maharashtra Branch); President, Indian Association of Leprologists; and Founder Chairman, Bombay Leprosy Project. He was the recipient of the Ambady Oration Award from the IADVL. His memory is enshrined in the Dr. A.C. Parikh Award that he instituted for the best presentation by a postgraduate during the annual conference of the IADVL (Maharashtra Branch).
He was a man of genial nature and always helpful to all. He had in Prabhavatiben, an erudite, highly cultured, and loving life-partner. He will be sorely missed by his two sons, one an eminent cardiologist and the other a pioneering pediatric dermatologist, and their families.
I have lost my life-long friend whose loss I shall feel all my life.
