This terracotta artwork portrays a serene face against a deep brown backdrop, representing Fitzpatrick skin type V. Textured floral motifs in milky white, ivory, and cream are asymmetrically distributed across the face to mirror the hypo- and depigmented patches of vitiligo [Figure 1].

Each flower varies in form and size, reflecting the clinical heterogeneity of the condition. Select motifs are touched with gold to symbolise resilience and hope, while a vivid red lip impression adds a striking focal point, emphasising individuality and the emotional journey of those living with vitiligo.
Depicting vitiligo on richly pigmented skin is particularly meaningful, as the contrast often amplifies its visibility and psychosocial impact. This artwork seeks to foster awareness, empathy, and a more inclusive perspective in dermatologic care.
By reimagining vitiligo patches as floral elements, the piece reframes difference as beauty. Just as every flower contributes to the richness of a garden, each patch tells a unique story, together forming a portrait of strength, identity, and transformation.
Through terracotta and symbolic colour, the artwork bridges medical understanding and creative expression. It serves as a visual tool for education and destigmatisation, honouring the resilience of those affected by vitiligo.
