Honorable Ministers, distinguished Guest. Delegates, Ladies and Gentlemen. I am extremely happy that the cherished desire of North Eastern State Branch have been fulfilled to bring the venue to Pragiyotishpur the Capital of Assam, the City of Guwahati. (Light of the East).
- 1. We are particularly honoured in having with us Dr Cavasca (Poland), Dr Perera (Sri Lanka), Dr Chin (Singapore), Dr J Wilkinson (UK), Dr Stephanie Shaw (UK), Dr A Okhandia (UK), Dr Baasagard (UK), Dr Abubakar (South Africa) to share thoughts and ideas for our mutual benefit. We are having 3-4 Dermatologists per million which is far below our country′s need. We have to spend best period of our life in a small room and leaking roof in skin O.P.Ds treating large number of patients, but things have improved now and wish this improvement will be continued further. Excellent clinical materials were available due to lack of proper documentation this clinical knowledge were lost. The clinical experience the Indian Dermatologists get in a few years is more than what our compatriats do in their life time.
People have been made to believe that subject of skin is not that important like medicine or surgery.
- 2. Authority has kept Post Graduate Scats for diploma and degree courses to a minimum as a consequence young medicos are debarred to take up this speciality. The tree which can be well nourished grow to great size to give shelter to many specialists and fruit to so many patients have been reduced to a "Bonsai". We must be vigorous. Rigorous and Sustained to master this science, rather art of medicine. Books, Basics is to teaching for the students by Dr A S Thambia.
Specialised Nursing Care in Dermatology is almost unknown except in a few places. Inspite of neglect from all corners of life the subject of Dermatology was born under the leadership of Dr Col H W Acton (1923) at S.T.M. Calcutta and received Chester field medal for his contribution to this unknown speciality at the time to the surprise of many friends and admirers. (1920) Dr Muir′s Work On Leprosy followed by Col Acton and Dr G Panja.
Dr A Gupta (1896-1947) Famous for Gupta′s Theory.
- 3. Dr L M Ghosh (1893-1951) - employed by P C Barua of Gouripur, Assam. Dr N C Dey (1902-1971) - Dibrugarh Medical College, Standardised Dosage DDS, Discover - Streptomycin with Walks Mann but could not develop it in pure Form - Extract Khan Antigen - in pure Form.
Venereology: The advent of AIDS - media, Authority and people are now conscious of at least role of Transmission has attracted the attention of long neglected science of STD. Prof R V Rajam, Dr P W Rangia, Prof Sourcn Ghosh were the Father Figure of Venereology in the country.
Leprosy: Dr Low, Dr Dharmendra Dr Chaterjee, Cochrane, Wade, Dr Paul Brandt, Dr Ganapati were the pioneer of Hanscnology in the country. Over all progress in this field is excellent in institute like Jalma, and Karigiri. National Board of examination has been established with a programme of conducting examination at P G Level. It is not understandable, New authority of holding examination and conferring degrees will improve the system of training? MCI should consult Association like ours to improve and standardised the system of Medical Education in the country. We represent many of the pioneer dermatologists of the country like Prof B N Banerjee, Prof K N Khandari, Prof B M Ambady to name a few. I am thankful to Prof Gurmohan Singh for excellent job done as Chief Editor of our Journal.
We must represent politically in the parliament to place our legitimate demand.
Social Work: Dermatology Detection Camp should be arranged at state level to detect Hansen′s Disease and other skin diseases early, which will bring more social acceptance of Dermatologist in the community.
Dermato Surgery is new branch attracted Dermatologists of the country.
Indigenous Medicines to be developed to treat skin Diseases as pioneers like Dr R Chopra.
The biggest business is going on all over the world out of skin, it is not simply leather we must try to understand the organ.
