The level and quantum of exposure of undergraduate students to dermatology is meager and inadequate, depriving them of essential knowledge of a specialty, which eventually forms the bulk of out-patient clientele of any general practice. Consequently, basics and scientific knowledge of this important subject remains deficient till some of them later decide to take up the specialty as a full time profession.
This book approaches the subject delicately, taking the reader through the grassroots building blocks of dermatology encompassing the methodology of clinical examination, educating him/her about the clinical and therapeutical aspects of dermatological disorders, to finally elevate him/her to glimpse the cutting edge of technology that the specialty has now come to embrace; all without losing the reader amidst unnecessary and unwanted details.
In spite of the title of the book, there is adequate material on the other two integral components of the specialty, namely, leprosy and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)/Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS). Summary boxes for a hurried reader, fine print boxes for the discerning reader; and a plethora of colored clinical pictures, line diagrams, figures and charts provide the reader an excellent insight into the subject in an easily digestible format. Clinical pictures are copious, clear and contemporary, and reflect the vast experience of the author and his contributors. Color-coded and chapter-numbered ′flip margins′ on both sides of each page, throughout the book, serve as an easily accessible search tool.
In a nutshell, the book is a must-read for all introductees of the science and art of dermatology, to gain an orderly insight into this specialized field.
