Essentials in Dermatology, Venereology and Leprology is a well conceived and finely executed book, targeting under graduate students of medicine and those aspiring to get admission to post graduate program. The book also acts as a ready reckoner for practicing Dermatologists. The book offers easy and comprehensive understanding of the subject with the author's keen eye on style as well as substance. The book proves to be a reliable guide to help diagnosing some of the most common dermatological diseases.
The well laid out tables, quick references, list of medicines, index etc., render the reading rewarding. Being written by a single author, the book maintains consistency of style to offer interesting reading. The author's including contemporary aspects of dermatology like Cosmetology, Lasers etc., is appreciable. The content is authentic and navigating through the book for differential diagnoses is also easy. It's a good book for initiation into Dermatology as well as inspiration for further pursuit of the speciality.
The book would have been more comprehensive with the inclusion of a chapter on prevention of some of the most common skin problems and skin hygiene. Also some topics like Cutaneous anthrax, Blastomycosis etc., need to be presented from regional perspective as most of the cases we handle in India are region specific.
I congratulate Dr. Ramesh Bansal on his bringing out a concise book on Dermatology with updated information.
