Disseminated cysticercosis with asymptomatic neurocysticercosis

A 55-year-old male presented with multiple asymptomatic cutaneous swellings all over the body. Examination revealed multiple skin-colored, firm, nontender, subcutaneous cystic nodules distributed over the upper limbs, trunk and lower limbs bilaterally with size varying from 5 to 40 mm [Figure - 1]. Skin biopsy of a nodule showed wall of larval cystic cavity and the duct-like invaginations were lined by eosinophilic membrane.

Cysticercosis cutis usually presents as asymptomatic subcutaneous swellings. Magnetic resonance imaging of the brain in our patient showed multiple cysts of neurocysticercosis in various stages of development, and of the whole body showed multiple hyperintense lesions in the subcutaneous tissue and muscle. Our case did not have any clinical symptoms, despite the presence of white crystalline deposit in the bilateral vitreous cavity. Disseminated cysticercosis with asymptomatic neuro-ocular cysticercosis has been rarely reported in the literature.
