AbstractTwenty-two cases of discoid lupus erythematosus were studied for their porphyrin metabolic changes. The series included two groups: Group I showing only the skin lesions and group II in which the skin lesions were associated with some signs and symptoms indicative of systemic involvement. Group I showed more or less normal values. Two cases of group II showed high porphyrin levels while the other two showed normal values. It was suggested that the high porphyrins in these two cases were precipitated by lupus erythematosus in genetically predisposed individuals.
